Gurpurb celebrated with religious fervour

The 545th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, was celebrated with traditional fervour at the Gurdwara Singh Sabha here on Thursday.

The 545th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, was celebrated with traditional fervour at the Gurdwara Singh Sabha here on Thursday.

Devotees from all sections of society thronged the gurdwara to pay obeisance to the guru.Prominent kirtani jathas recited the gurbani and dhadi jathas sang heroic songs related to Sikh wars.

Preachers threw light on the life of Guru Nanak Dev and urged people to follow the path of life shown by him.

The preachers stressed upon the fact that the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev were still relevant and should be observed in order to lead a pious and meaningful life.

The devotees present took part in the langar (community kitchen) after the ardas. On Wednesday, an impressive nagar kirtan was taken out in town, starting from Gurdwara Singh Sabha.

Gurpurb was also celebrated at Gurdwara Sangatpura, Gurdwara Baba Tehal Singh and Gurdwara Ramgarhia in the town.

Dinanagar, Dhariwal, Ghoman, Udhanwal, Harchowal, Srihargobindpur, Barth Sahib, Burj Sahib, Babri, Gurdasnangal, Dorangla, Behrampur, Gahlari, Kahnuwan, Qadian, Batala and Pathankot also celebrated the occasion with fervour.
