Guru Nanak Dev University to adopt 5 villages

A syndicate meeting of Guru Nanak Dev University was held here on Thursday. Vice-chancellor (V-C) professor Ajaib Singh Brar presided over the meeting while registrar prof Sharanjit Singh Dhillon presented the agenda. Important decisions regarding adoption of 5 villages by the university and approval to PhD degrees were taken in the meeting. Dean academic affairs prof Paramjit Singh was also present on the occasion.

The V-C said the university was committed to the progress of backward and rural areas. For this purpose, as per the guidelines of the government of Punjab, the university would adopt five villages where its constituent colleges and regional campuses are located. He said the villages would be from Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Kapurthala districts.

Prof Brar said a new emergency ward and laboratory wing were recently inaugurated in the health centre of the university for the benefit of students, faculty members and employees.

The syndicate also approved the promotions of various professors and gave approval to 19 PhD theses in various faculties.
