One person died and trees were uprooted in several localities after a hailstorm hit the holy city on Monday. The victim died after a tree fell on his car on Mall Road, though police claimed that no casualty was reported due to the storm.
The storm hit power supply in many localities, which plunged into darkness. In some localities, power outage remained for almost 24 hours. Sources said in Ranjit Avenue, there was a power outage from 4pm on Monday till Tuesday evening.
However, no damage to crops was reported anywhere in the district. Agricultural experts said the hailstorm was by and large localised, and thus, no damage to the crops was reported.
The city received 13 mm rain on Monday and squall brought the chill back. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city were recorded at 23.7 degrees and 11.8 degrees Centigrade, respectively. The MET officials have predicted rain and thundershowers for the next four days for the city.
