Noted Punjabi singer Hans Raj Hans on Saturday met renowned Sufi singer Barkat Sidhu, who is undergoing treatment for cancer at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for the past one month.
Sidhu, a fine exponent of Patiala Gharana of classical singing, has contributed a lot to the Sufi music during his career.
Hans interacted with him for a while and wished him early recovery.
Hans said, “It takes ages that an artist of Sidhu’s stature is born and we cannot afford to lose such great personalities. A policy should also be framed to cover all financial, medical or any other sort of liabilities of such great artistes.”
Talking about Sidhu, Hans said, “He is a real genius and the “guru”of my “guru” Puran Shah Koti.”
However, Laddi Singh, son of Sidhu said, “We are quite grateful of the government for bearing the medical expenses for my father’s treatment and we have already started receiving free medicines in the hospital.”
He added, “We have already spent Rs 6 lakh on surgeries and operations conducted in the past one month. It would be of great help if government reimburses the entire amount of money spent on his treatment.”
Doctors treating Sidhu said, “His cur rent health condition is stable. After following a proper diet, he is now recovering fast. He is getting medical aid on time and will remain under medication for some more time, after which, he would be treated for chemotherapy.”
