The state government which have spent crore of rupees on bollywood icons - Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar - for their performances in the Kabaddi World cup in past two years, is yet to release the pending installment of Rs 12.5 lakh grant towards hosting Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan.
Upinderjeet Kaur, former state finance minister had made a provision for Rs 25 lakh grant towards hosting of sammelan in 2010-11 state budget.
The 137th edition of the sammelan, which is the oldest festival of Hindustani classical music in the world, would start here from December 28.
Addressing a press conference, Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Mahasabha general secretary Purnima Beri said that the sammelan is basically aimed to preserve and promote India's classical music and heritage. The state government should take the responsibility to allocate Rs 25 lakh annual grant so as to promote the classical feast to next level, adding that nearly Rs 30 lakh were being spent on hosting this event every year.
"Though the then finance minister Upinderjeet Kaur had made a provision of Rs 25 lakh for the sammelan in the state budget, so far we have just received Rs 12.5 lakh of it. We approached the department concerned for release of pending installment on several occasions, but to no avail," said Purnima.
