Targeting the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre here on Friday, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal blamed the union government for "betraying the innocent people of the country by failing to curb corruption, generate employment and defend the country against security threats".
Harsimrat also accused the Centre of ruining the nation through its anti-people and anti-poor policies. "It is unfortunate that even today 25 crore people in the country sleep on an empty stomach when foodgrains which should have been provided to them are rotting for want of people-oriented policies," she said.
The Bathinda MP was addressing a gathering in the grain market here after inaugurating the office of Mansa MLA Prem Mittal. But her address was disrupted by a protest by unemployed linemen and their families, who raised anti-government slogans, accusing the state government of going back on its promises made to them. The police used mild force against the agitators and detained all of them, including 12 women and five men. They were released late in the evening.
The protesting linemen and their family members were released on Thursday from Bathinda jail after they were arrested by the Bathinda police during their protest at Talwandi Sabo on April 13.
Mansa SSP Narinder Bhargav said no lineman or any of their family members was thrashed.
Harsimrat laid the foundation stones of 10 roads in various villages of Mansa. She also laid the foundation stones of waterworks in five villages. She later assured the people that every effort would be made to develop Mansa as a modern city and the projects initiated would be completed within the stipulated time frame.
The bathinda MP also distributed grants among 58 government schools for the upgrade of their art and craft rooms.
Addressing a gathering in the grain market, she said, "The state government is committed to providing uninterrupted water and electricity supply to the people, especially in rural areas. It is because of the farsighted approach of CM Parkash Singh Badal and deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal that Punjab is fast moving ahead on the road to prosperity and progress."
Bathinda MP Harismrat Kaur Badal inaugurated the office of Mansa MLA Prem Kumar Mittal in the old grain market on Friday. The MLA also made available to the public two round-the-clock helpline numbers, 01652-220229 and 9815666056.
