Union food processing industries minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to bring 'achhe din' for the people of the state. She was on a thanksgiving tour of areas including Saidewala, Baretta and Budhlada.
"The Prime Minister has launched Jan Dhan yojana under which every citizen will have a bank account along with a certain sum of insurance," she said.
It was her first visit to Mansa district after becoming a minister at the Centre.
She promised to bring more prosperity in the region and said that a food processing plant will be set up in the area. However, she did not give any deadline for the plant.
"A food processing plant will be set up in the area after inviting views of locals, but I cannot give nay deadline right now," said the union minister.
She accused the Congress regime of rampant corruption. She said that Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh did nothing for his Patiala constituency which he earlier represented in the state assembly. "As MLA from Patiala and even as the chief minister, Amarinder didn't do enough for the state."
Hinting that the developmental work in the region will pick up gradually, she said that due to rampant corruption during the UPA regime, the current central government is facing acute shortage of funds. "When I assumed office, I came to know that my own ministry is under huge debt. Officials told me that the previous minister was hardly seen in the office. My first priority will be to clear the debt which the previous minister has piled up," said the minister.
