After repeated embarrassment for Panchkula district due to poor results of Classes 12 and 10, district education officer on Monday said he will recommend transfer of poor-performing teachers.

Of total 25 students who appeared in Class 10 exams of the Haryana Board of School Education from Government High School (GHS) in Kami, Barwala block, just two could pass the exam. The pass percentage at the school is 8%, lowest in the district. Barwala block education officer Sunita Nain cited no teachers for science and Hindi subjects for poor result, which were declared on Sunday.

Similarly, only four students of 35 passed the exam, at Government High School, Bunga, Barwala block. The school has no science teacher. GHS Jalouli in the same block had 56 students in Class 10, but only seven could pass; the overall pass percentage is 12.5%. Though the school has teachers for all subjects, it didn’t have the principal. Overall, a pass percentage of 39.33% was recorded in the district with 61 government schools; several recorded much lower pass percentage.

BARWALA BLOCK WORST PERFORMER

The Barwala block recorded the lowest pass percentage with over 66% failing to qualify the exam — of total 737 students who appeared for the exam, just 248 passed. Besides GHS Kami, GHS Bunga and GHS Jalouli, another worst performer in the block is GHS Rattewali which recorded 12.69% pass percentage, GHS Khetprali that recorded 12.72% pass percentage and only 18.6% students could pass the exam at GHS Billa. “There was no math teacher in Rattewali, no science teacher in Khetprali and no Hindi and science teacher in Billa. Even if you do not have teacher for a single subject, the result gets affected,” said Nain, adding that since the implementation of the Right to Education Act, the results were going down as students up to Class 8 couldn’t be failed. Now, if students are failed in Class 9, inquiries are marked to check it, she said.

63% FAILED IN MORNI BLOCK

In the Morni block comprising 371 students, only 138 could pass the exam. The pass percentage was just 37.1%. At Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Tikkar Hills, just 8 passed the exam of total 46 students. The school marks lowest pass percentage of 17.4 % in the block. “There is a staff shortage at Tikkar Hills,” reasoned MS Sindhu, block education officer (BEO), Morni. The other poor performing schools in the block include GSSS Baladwala (24.4% pass percentage), GSSS Morni Hills (31.3%); and GSSS Thandog (36.1%). “There is a shortage of teachers. There is no science and math teacher at Baladwala, and no head at Morni Hills school,” added Sindhu.

AROUND 59 % FAILED AT RAIPUR RANI BLOCK

The Raipur Rani block recorded a pass percentage of 41.4%. Total 587 students appeared for the exam and only 243 passed.

At GSSS Rehna, only five students passed of total 34 students — the pass percentage (14.71 %) is lowest in the block. “There is no teacher for Classes 9-12 at the school,” said Raipur Rani BEO Renu Sangwan. The other poor performing schools of the block include GSSS Raipur Rani (23.9% pass percentage), Government Girls High School (GGHS), Raipur Rani (26.7 %), and GSSS Rampur Thadeon (28.8 %).

“GGHS Raipur Rani no head, while overall pass percentage (23.9 %) has improved 9% from the last year,” said Sangwan.

730 OF 1,716 STUDENTS PASSED IN PINJORE

The Pinjore block recorded total pass percentage of 42.5% with total 730 passing out of total 1,716 students. The poor performing schools include Government High School, Sector 19 (19.1% pass percentage), GSSS, Sector 7, (25.89%), GSSS Pinjore (28%), GSSS Saketri (29.4 %) and GSSS Mallah (29.8%). The Pinjore BEO was not available for comment.

Meanwhile, DEO Harvinder Saini said, “We will seek explanation from teachers and their transfer will be recommended.”
