The guest teachers, who have been issued termination letter by the state government, on Thursday announced to hold fast-unto-death from June 23 at Mahendergarh, the home district of education minister Ram Bilas Sharma, to protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana.
On the second day of the protest in the southern district of Mahendergarh, scores of dismissed teachers held massive demonstration. Protesting teachers, including women, are camping at Devi Lal Park and have threatened to continue their agitation till jobs were restored.
President of Haryana Guest Teachers Association Rajinder Shastri said that they would protest against the anti-teachers policies of the state government. He also announced to carry out ‘pol khol abhiyan’ to expose dual face of Sharma and other BJP leaders.
Shastri said that in the pre-poll campaign Sharma and health minister Anil Vij had shown solidarity to them and supported teachers movement against the then Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government.
“BJP leaders repeatedly assured us that jobs of the guest teachers will be saved. But after winning the elections, Sharma and other BJP leaders have refused to honour their pre-election promise. We will expose their dual personalities in the public domain,” said Shastri.
In May, the association had held a 10-day protest in Karnal— the constituency represented by the chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar—in support of their demands.
