A 24-year-old woman of Bhana village in Jind district delivered a child in a moving bus, which she had taken to reach Jind civil hospital allegedly after being refused admission by the doctors at Narwana civil hospital.

The newborn, a girl, died soon after taking birth.

Kin of victim said that they rushed Geeta Devi, who was in labour pains, to Narwana hospital for delivery on Thursday, but the doctors present there refused to admit her citing non-availability of a gynaecologist at the hospital.

Sunheri Devi, mother of Geeta, said, "Hospital staff did not offer us ambulance for taking the patient to Jind civil hospital and we had to take a private bus. Geeta delivered a girl child in the moving bus near Ucchana town." Some women passengers helped Geeta in delivering the baby in the bus. Geeta was later admitted to a hospital in Ucchana, she added.

Narwana senior medical officer Dr RK Singla and Jind chief medical officer Dr Jitender Grewal denied the allegations. They said that no such case had come at Narwana. On being asked about the availability of gynaecologist at Narwana, Grewal said that the doctor was present on Thursday.
