The executive council of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalya (BPSMV) has finally deciced to enforce compulsory retirementment on university staffer Dharambir Singh Siwach, who has been found guilty of sexual harassing a minor student.

50-year-old Siwach was accused of molesting the 16-year-old girl on February 18, 2013 by brandishing a knife.

The victim, who is a student of Class 11 of the Kanya Gurukul Senior Secondary School affiliated to the university, had lodged a complaint accusing Siwach for attempting to rape her by brandishing a knife. The accused was the victim's local guardian.

Earlier, the varsity's anti-sexual harassment committee had sought the dismissal of Siwach owing to the nature of crime, however, the new vice-chancellor Asha Kadyan in January asked the committee to consider reopening of the case.

"In the interest of justice, the case should be reopened", the letter by nodal officer of legal cell had said to anti-sexual harassment committee. Siwach has been under suspension from the university since May 2013.

However, a professor of same varsity had called up HT and said that the VC's office has accepted the affidavit submitted by the accused in which he claimed innocence and sought the removal of the complaint against him.

The same professor who was present in recent executive council meeting held in BPSMV maintained that the committee discussed the issue again and took cognisance of report published in HT -- "Women varsity goes soft on staffer found guilty of sexual harassment" -- dated January, 28.

Sources said that committee made a unanimous decision to not open any fresh probe in the related case, as on earlier occasions, Siwach has been found guilty and ordered for his compulsory retirement.
