Health and sports minister Anil Vij claimed that Haryana would be developed as world yoga capital.

Speaking at a state-level function held at Police Lines to mark the International Yoga Day, he said 6,500 yogshalas would be opened in the state and during this year alone 1,000 such yogshalas would be started, where trained yoga teachers would give lessons for adopting pious and stress-free lifestyle.

The minister claimed that the move would generate employment and each teacher would be given `8,100 stipend, adding that "Sri Krishna Yoga University will also be set up at Kurukshetra."

Complimenting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts, he said, "Till now we have been celebrating days based on western culture. For the first time 5,000 old cultural heritage has got recognition."

Over 3,500 yoga enthusiasts, including several MLAs, BJP leaders and senior civil and police officers had participated in 35-minute function in which 25 yoga asana were performed.

Meanwhile, hundreds of BJP workers and volunteers from different social and voluntary organisation participated at a mass function at Subhas Park to observe the day.
