HAU's meteorological service centre declared country's best

India Meteorological Department (IMD), Union Ministry of Earth Sciences has awarded the Rural Agriculture Meteorological Service Centre of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar as the best centre at the national level.

India Meteorological Department (IMD), Union Ministry of Earth Sciences has awarded the Rural Agriculture Meteorological Service Centre of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar as the best centre at the national level.


While stating this on Wednesday, a spokesman of the university said this award had been received by in charge of Rural Agriculture Meteorological Service Centre of the University Madan Khichar and head of the department Ram Niwas.

The award was conferred by director general of IMD, Lakshman Singh Rathore during the annual review meeting of Rural Agriculture Meteorological Service held at Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur. The meeting was organised by IMD.

He said the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences has set up nearly 133 rural agricultural meteorological service centres in the country.

The service centre of CCSHAU has been selected for the national award of best centre for providing accurate weather forecast to the farmers through SMS during the last three years and also for providing timely agricultural advisory services.

He said at present, as many as 75,000 farmers in the state are availing the benefit of this service and a target had been fixed to extend this service to 1.5 lakh farmers by the next year with the assistance of National Informatics Centre (NIC).
