The Punjab and Haryana high court has asked Guru Ravidas Ayurved University, Hoshiarpur, to consider a representation against its registrar, seeking quashing of his appointment, within three months.
The order was passed by a high court bench on the plea of a Hoshiarpur resident, who had approached court alleging that the registrar, Jatinder Garg, did not fulfil the basic qualification for the post. The appointment was made in 2016.
It was alleged that he was appointed by transfer. He was on deputation with Inder Kumar Gujral, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. Appointment of a registrar in the university by way of transfer from another university can be made. However, he was not a regular registrar and only manning the post of registrar in a regional campus of the technical university. Hence, he could not have been appointed, the petitioner had argued.
The high court allowed the petitioner to withdraw the petition and approach university bringing all the facts before it, further asking the university that if such a representation is filed, same be considered preferably within three months.
