The Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday directed the Punjab government to give details of FIRs registered against United Akali Dal (UAD) president Mohkam Singh.
The direction came from the high court bench of justice MMS Bedi on the petition of the UAD president, who had sought directions to the state for protection of his life and liberty, feeling harassed and humiliated by the registration of three cases against him. It was alleged that FIRs had been registered with an objective of defeating the petitioner’s release. The government’s response has been sought by February 8. Singh has also sought to make deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal as a party in the matter, alleging that the police was acting at his behest.
Following the high court granting bail to Singh on January 8, he was again arrested on January 9 in an October 2015 case of destruction of public property. Earlier, he was arrested on allegations of sedition over the radical Sarbat Khalsa organised on November 10 last year.
