HC seeks status report on IIT Mandi clash case

Himachal Pradesh high court on Wednesday directed the government to file status report regarding IIT Mandi clash, besides the mechanism of issuing gun license in the state.

A division bench comprising chief justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan passed the orders while taking suo motto of news item published in a Hindi daily. The court further listed the matter for July 28.

The court observed that it appeared that some private persons were moving in the state with arms. It is not known how many such people are working or moving in the entire state.

The HC directed the state to file a report on authority who granted license to the persons for carrying arms. The court also asked to file status report about mechanism of granting gun license, detail of person granted with such licenses in Himahcal. The court further asked that what action had been taken by the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, Mandi, in the incident, which had occurred on June 19 at Kamand in Mandi, besides action taken against the contractor, who had hired the gunman.
