Health dept collects 49 food samples to check adulteration

To check adulteration in food items, the district food safety officers with district health officer collected 49 food samples in three days.

District food safety officer Ravinderpal Garg along with Manoj Khosla, Harpreet Kaur and Yogesh Goyal under the leadership of district health officer Dr Abnash Kumar visited various places on June 19, 20 and 23 to collect food samples.

On June 19, the team visited Samrala Chowk area from where they collected samples of biscuits, mustard oil, salt and curd. From Chandigarh Road, the team collected samples of various pulses, grams, sugar and rice.

On June 20, the team visited Ferozepur road and collected samples of milk, cheese, butter, Ghee, wheat and flavored milk and juice and from Jagraon samples of mustard oil, turmeric, curd and juice samples were taken.

On June 23, the team visited Khanna from where they took samples of wheat flour, ice cream, samosa, pasta, pizza, cold drink, pulses, sugar, and packed water samples.

Dr Abnash said: "We have intensified our drive to check adulteration in every corner of the city and have collected 81 samples till now." He said samples had been sent to Chandigarh food laboratory for testing and proper action would be taken against the defaulters.
