Health dept collects samples from mid-day meal kitchen

The district health department inspected mid-day meal in various schools on Friday. The team lead by district health officer (DHO) Dr Abnash Kumar visited Government Primary School, Model Gram with food safety officers Ravinderpal Garg, Manoj Khosla, Harpreet Kaur and Yogesh Goyal.

The team inspected the school kitchen and took samples of kheer, rice and wheat flour to check the quality. A team also visited Government Senior Secondary School for Girls, Bharat Nagar chowk and collected samples of khichdi and wheat flour from the school kitchen.

Schools were instructed to keep their kitchen clean and to prepare mid-day meal in clean utensils. DHO Kumar said samples were sent to the Food Laboratory, Chandigarh, for quality check.

The health department team also collected food samples from various parts of the city. Team collected a total of 13 samples on Friday.

The samples of yoghurt, mix vegetable, cold drinks, milk and maaza were collected from various dhabas situated in Hodey village. From Dyalpura village near Atta Mill, the team collected samples of cheese, milk and cold drink. Cheese sample from a sweet shop in Jamalpur Colony and turmeric sample form a grocery store in Iqbalganj Chowk were also collected.
