The "online cancer data transfer training programme", a software-education class, is on for members of the health department staff.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from the department of computer science and engineering on the Giani Zail Singh regional campus here of Punjab Technical University (PTU) have arranged the programme. In the inaugural awareness speech on Monday, district immunisation officer Dr Rakesh Goyal spoke about the pre-cancer and during-cancer precautions.

Dinesh Kumar, NSS programme officer in the host department, welcomed the volunteers, workers from the block-level civil hospitals and nursing institutions of this district; and other participants, including nearly 30 computer operators, teachers, and doctors. The Punjab government experts, Dr Gaurav Chauhan and Dr Kaushik, trained the participants.

NSS coordinator Gagandeep Kaur also addressed the gathering and spoke about the cancer and hepatitis awareness campaign planned at Talwandi Sabo from December 18 to 24. In this camp organised by the PTU, Jalandhar, nearly 500 volunteers from the engineering colleges of Bathinda district will participate. The Giani Zail Singh campus will send 350 volunteers to the camp and they'll make people aware of the preventive measures against cancer.

Jasbir Singh Hundal, director of the PTU's regional campus, applauded the NSS team leader, Shaffy Goyal, and volunteers Sahil Goyal, Sourav Goyal, Bhuvneshwar Garg, Amol Vikramjeet, Himanshu Gupta, Gaurav Gupta, Naresh Bansal, Richa, Sukhpreet, Narsingh, and Ekta Khippal.
