The health department on Saturday raided the premises of a South City areabased company in the business of supplying drinking water in coolers and found it to be supplying unpurified water.
The water was filled in the coolers directly through submersible, whose water pipe was found leaking.

Under the leadership of district health officer (DHO) Dr Kulwinder Singh, the health team comprising district food safety officers (DFSO) Ravinder Garg, Yogesh Goyal, Harpreet Kaur and Manoj Khosla reached Rama Water Factory in the morning.

They found that the water was filled in the water coolers (campers), which were to be supplied, directly through a submersible pump which was connected to a cooling system.

The condition of the cooling tank was also not found hygienic. Also, the condition of the room where the water coolers were filled was unhygienic and there were spider webs in the room. No RO (reverse osmosis) system was installed in the factory to purify the water and the owner did not have licence to run the unit.

The health team took four water coolers for sampling and have sealed the factory till the sample report come.
DHO Dr Kulwinder Singh said, “There was no purifying system in the factory. The unit’s condition was unhygienic, thus water could be impure or unfit for consumption. Samples have been sent to Chandigarh for testing and further action will be taken as per the reports.”
