A surprise visit by the deputy director health caught many doctors off guard at the Jalandhar Civil Hospital on Friday. The surprise inspection may land some doctors and staff in trouble as they were missing from their respective offices during the check.

Pawan Jagota, deputy director health, reached the civil hospital in the morning and carried out a thorough inspection. According to sources, he prepared a list of around 25 doctors and staff who were not present in their office during official hours.

A source said surprise visits were a routine affair and had been carried out in the past too. He added that earlier also, a list of absentees was made but no action was initiated. The civil hospital is in a bad shape with equipment which does not function but despite inspections and raids, no work has been carried out till date.

Kelash Kapoor, medical superintendent of the Jalandhar Civil Hospital said, "It was a routine check done by the deputy director and some of the doctors and staff were found absent during duty hours. A list has been prepared and action may be initiated against people found at fault."
