The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday fixed August 22 the next date for hearing in the solid waste treatment plant case.

In the last hearing on July 15, the tribunal had imposed fine of Rs 50,000 and Rs 10, 000 on private firm JITF and the municipal corporation of Bathinda (MCB) officials, respectively, for providing false information to the tribunal that the mandatory green belt has been developed around the site proposed for setting up the waste treatment plant.

Area residents living on the Bathinda-Mansa road, where the proposed solid waste treatment plant is to come up, led by one
Captain Mall Singh have approached the tribunal demanding that the plant be shifted to some other place as it was not appropriate to set up the plant in the residential area.

The proposed plant will cater to treatment of solid waste of 18 local bodies under the Bathinda cluster. Nearly 350 tonne of solid waste will be treated at the plant on daily basis.
