Hearing of cases against Hawara held via video conferencing

The hearing of four cases registered at Chamkaur Sahib against Jagtar Singh Hawara, who was ‘appointed’ Akal Takht jathedar by the radical Sarbat Khalsa on Tuesday, was held in the court of additional sessions judge Sunita Kumari through video conferencing from Delhi’s Tihar jail.

Hawara is a convict in former CM Beant Singh’s assassination case. The cases filed against Hawara at Chamkaur Sahib include one registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and provisions of the Arms Act and TADA regarding an encounter on September 22, 1991; and a case registered under sections 302 (murder), 307, 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC and provisions of TADA on December 23, 1998, in connection with the killing of a special police officer.

He is also an accused in a case registered in 1988 under sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act and Section 5 of TADA, besides the murder case of a gurdwara granthi.

The court fixed December 22 as the next date of hearing in these cases.
