Heavy rainfall in the Kullu valley caused flood in 100 MW Sainj hydro electric project (HEP) located in Kullu district.

However no loss of human life has been reported so far but authorities have confirmed some loss to the machinery due to rise in water level in the rivulet. Water flooded the tunnel washing out concrete and some machinery. A team of experts are expected to visit on Wednesday to assess the actual loss.

HEP run by Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation limited (HPPCL) is Rs 800-crore hydro project which is under construction. Funded by the Asian Development Bank, the project would generate 322 MU power per annum.

Sources told HT that power generation was not stopped.

“After heavy rainfall lashed the valley, water level increased in the rivulet causing flood in the hydro project,” HPPCL official revealed.
