Helpline numbers launched for registering mining complaints

The Punjab government has started telephone helpline to assist people in connection with the illegal mining.

This was stated by Bhatinda range inspector general of police (IG) Nirmahal Singh Dhillon who is heading a special investigating team (SIT) to review cases registered under Mining Act.

He said SIT was formed on the orders of the Punjan and Haryana high court. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ropar Indermohan Singh and joint secretary industries Vishav Bhartiare other members of SIT. Dhillon said residents could file their complaints by dailaing 97794-66099, 0172-701226 and 0164-2240180.

Jalandhar district industries general manager Bhinder Singh said 95 cases had been registered in this regard. He added mining was closed till September 30. He said seven khuds of grade C and two khuds of grade B have been auctioned in Jalandhar where sand would be sold at Rs 315 per 100 feet.
