Police claimed to have two gangs of drug peddlers and recovered 2.260 kilograms of heroin worth `12 Crore in the international market and held seven persons.
Giving details, Hardial Singh Mann, SSP, Ferozepur said that during a routine check at a checkpost in Sabudana village, inspector Kikkar Singh stopped an Innova car numbered PB 30N-4970 coming from Mallanwala and recovered 1.480 kgs heroin from the vehicle. The occupants -- Balwinder Kumar, Sukhchain Singh and Jarnail Singh of Amritsar - have been arrested and booked under sections 21, 25, 29, 61 of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Meanwhile, sub-inspector Parveen Kumar present at a Nakabandi near Satiye village stopped an Indica car numbers PB 64-4545 coming from Moga for a routine check and apprehended Harkirat Singh of Moga, and Sanny and Sunny of Amritsar and recovered 520 grams of heroin from their possession and booked then under the NDPS Act.
On preliminary investigation, Sukhchain, who was imprisoned from October to December 2014 in connection with supplying heroin, confessed that he used to deliver heroin in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Moga, Ludhiana in Punjab and Panipat in Haryana. Sukhchain used to procure heroin from one Sonu, whom he had met through a person who was imprisoned with him.
It is also come to light that there were already several cases of rugs registered against Balwinder, Sukhchain and Sonu at various police stations in the state.
In another case sub-inspector Jagtar Singh apprehended Nishan Singh of Ferozepur and recovered 260 grams of heroin from his possession.
Nishan Singh allegedly confessed that he was smuggling heroin from last many years. He further added that his brother Nirvair Singh is also in Faridkot Jail for possessing 20 kgs of heroin.
Further investigation is going on in all the cases.
Heroin worth Rs 8 lakh seized in Moga
Moga: The district police have seized heroin of worth `8 lakh on Saturday from the possession of an alleged notorious smuggler of Tarn Taran near Chugawan village, 11 km from the district headquarters.
Police officials said that the arrested person has been identified as Balvir Singh.
Jatinder Singh Khaira, senior superintendent of police (SSP), said that the Moga crime investigation agency staff had received a tip-off about the smuggler who entered the district for selling heroin.
"As soon we received the information, police from various police stations barricaded the area. When apprehended Balvir fled from the spot but the police arrested him after a long chase. During the search we seized 200 gm heroin from his possession," said SSP.
"During the primary investigation we found that Balvir was smuggling drugs for last few years. However, further investigation is on. I hope that some more smugglers will be caught soon," Khaira added.
The police have registered a case against Balvir under sections 15, 61 and 85 of NDPS Act.
