The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday confirmed the anticipatory bail to Congress MLA from Naraingarh and chief parliamentary secretary, Ram Kishan Gujjar, who is facing charges of abetment of suicide of Naraingarh-based journalist Pankaj Khanna.
However, the court headed by justice Sabina adjourned Gujjar's petition challenging the summoning orders of the Ambala trial court for next hearing to March 3.
Earlier, the Ambala court had on November 7 granted bail to Gujjar on high court's directions after he had appeared in the trial court.
Gujjar had pleaded his innocence and had submitted that he had been falsely implicated in the case. Ambala court had earlier on October 19 dismissed Gujjar's anticipatory bail petition and had ordered his personal appearance on October 21.
It was on June 10, 2009, that Yash Pal Khanna had lodged an FIR in Naraingarh police station mentioning that his son, Pankaj Khanna, was forced to commit suicide after being harassed by Gujjar and two businessmen Vijay Aggarwal and Ajit Aggarwal. The FIR was registered under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code against the trio as the deceased had left a suicide note mentioning names of all three of them for abetment to suicide.
Later the state police had given clean chit to Gujjar and deceased's father had moved the Ambala court after which Gujjar was ordered to be impleaded as a party in the case.
