Providing relief to as many as 816 art and craft teachers sacked by the Haryana government, a division bench of Punjab and Haryana high court has directed to maintain status quo for the time being.
In February this year, a single bench of high court had quashed the selection of 816 art and craft teachers appointed during the previous Bhupinder Singh Hooda regime.
The court held that the entire selection process was vitiated and a tailor-made criterion was adopted for selecting candidates who would not have made it otherwise. The high court had also set a five-month deadline for the Haryana Staff Selection Commission to hold fresh selection.
Taking up the petition filed by the teachers, the divison bench on Tuesday directed the state government to maintain status quo which implies that the there is no stay on fresh recruitment, but these 816 teachers would not be removed from job till fresh appointments are made.
