High drama was witnessed at the local Shiv Jyoti Public School on Monday when students' parents, who have been protesting for the last 10 days, held a meeting with the school management on three key issues.
The parents said the school was forcing them to purchase a new set of books and they protested against the arbitrary increase in academic fee and charging of re-admission fee from their wards.
They said Shiv Jyoti Elementary School, managed by the same institution, was charging Rs 11,000 admission fee to get admission to Shiv Jyoti Public School.
"My child is to be admitted in Class 1 at Shiv Jyoti Public School. The school management is demanding Rs 11,000 as admission fee to readmit her in the same school. They have created a separate building and named it as elementary school to get the admission fee again," a parent said.
Finally, the parents, school principal Vibha Sharda, management along with police officials settled the issue.
The parents agreed to pay Rs 7,000 as admission fee instead of Rs 11,000. The parents said the school had hiked the fee from Rs 950 to Rs 1,200.
The management agreed to increase Rs 150 hike in fee as against the earlier amount of Rs 250.
The management told the parents that those who could not afford the books could return them and the money would be refunded.
