Highway robbers land in police net

The Ludhiana Rural police claimed to have busted a gang of highway robbers, who were behind several robberies on the highways in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur.

The Mullanpur Dakha police have brought the accused, Baldev Singh of Ferozepur and Sukhbir Singh of Amritsar, on production warrant from Amritsar Police.

Two sports-utility vehicles (SUVs), four mobile phones and a gold chain were recovered from the accused, the police said.

Dakha police SHO Harbhajan Singh said following the statement of the accused, they raided a house in Ferozepur and arrested one more accused, Sucha Singh of Guruharsahai of Ferozepur.

"During interrogation, it came to fore that the accused had executed many crimes in Dakha and surrounding areas. We also found that the accused had looted a Maruti Swift car from Chownkiman area and sold it off in West Bengal," he added.

A team of police officials has been dispatched to West Bengal for recovery of the car and for further investigation.

He also revealed that Monu, a clerk at district transport office, Ferozepur, was hand in glove with the accused, as he used to provide them fake registration certificates of cars.
