Three matches were played on the third day of the ongoing 12th Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Junior Gold Cup Hockey Tournament.

In the first match, Khadur Sahib Hockey Academy, Khadur Sahib, defeated Chherrata Hockey Academy 3-2 while in the second match victory was tasted by Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Hockey Academy, Amritsar by defeating Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committe (SGPC) 4-3.

In the third match between women hockey teams, two teams, blue and green of Guru Nanak Dev University, played against each other. The match was won by the blue team by scoring three goals more than green team.

There was a low foot fall of spectators for the past two days. There was a hope of audience coming in for the women's match, but because of chilly weather and dense fog, it faded.

The number of girls' teams in the tournament is just three in comparison to ten boys' teams. Sukhjit Shammi, an international hockey player, said, "Girls hockey has taken a back seat because girls in Punjab lack passion for this sport.

We in our Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Academy do not even train girls now. There are various reasons behind that. First, they lack etiquettes in terms of respecting their coaches. As they know our law is woman-friendly, at times they misuse it and level allegations against male coaches, so the latter avoid training them. Now if I am given the responsibility to train them, even I would prefer younger boys over girls as at least they would be serious in their training and have audacity to wish their woman coach which is missing in girls."
