In an incident of honour killing, a man and his woman friend were allegedly murdered by the woman’s family on Wednesday night when the man had gone to meet her at her house at Rajgarh Kude village near Maur in this district.

Based on a complaint by Bahadur Singh, father of victim Simranjit Singh, 25, the police have booked woman’s father Chamkaur Singh, uncle Jagsir Singh, brother Dharminder Singh and another unidentified man for murder.

According to the police, the woman, Manjinder Kaur, 22, tried to protect Simranjit by throwing herself on him but she was also killed by the attackers who were armed with axes and other sharp-edged weapons.
Maur SHO inspector Gursher Singh said Simranjit’s father, in his complaint, alleged that Simranjit had an affair with Manjinder of the same village.

“On Wednesday night, my son was sleeping in a room while the other family members were sleeping on the roof. At about 12.30 pm, I noticed that Simranjit was not on his bed, so I, along with my brother, went out looking for him,” he alleged.

“As we were returning home after looking for my son we heard his cries coming from the woman’s house. When we went inside we noticed that the lights were on and the family members were armed with axes and other sharp-edged weapons. When we asked them what was going on they threatened us, so we came back,” he alleged, adding that in the morning the bodies of the two were found lying outside the woman’s house. All the accused have fled from the village and the police were looking for them.
