Honour killing

In a case of honour killing, the father of a girl, assisted by his brothers and the village sarpanch, allegedly hanged to death a 17-year-old boy, after he saw him in an “objectionable condition” with her in Shamsherpur Khurd village recently.

To cover up their crime committed on the night of May 2, the accused called the father of the deceased to the girl’s home and forced him to perform the last rites of the boy on the same night and also threatened him of dire consequences if he would report the incident to anyone.

On the complaint of the deceased’s father, Ghiania Ke Banger police have registered a case under sections 302, 201, 120 B, 506 and 149 of the IPC against the father of the girl, Pawan Kumar, his brothers Satpal and Jaspal, village sar panch Amarjeet Singh, panchayat members Ranjeet Kaur, Ram Singh and Kuldeep Singh.

According to available information, deceased’s father Malkiat Singh, a resident of Shamsherpur, a neighbour-ing village, under Ghiania Ke Banger police station, on Thursday lodged a complaint with the police that his son Naga, who was working as a labourer in the grain market, had a love affair with the 15-yearold girl of village Shamsherpur Khurd for the past two years.

On the night of May 2, the girl called his son to her home. He was later caught by the girl’s father, Pawan Kumar, in an “objectionable condition” with his daughter.

An infuriated Pawan Kumar called his brothers, Sat Pal and Jaspal; the village sar panch and panchayat members at his house and they hanged the boy to death.

“Later, Pawan Kumar came to my house and told me that my son was lying in unconscious condition at his house. When I reached Pawan’s house, I was astonished to see my son hanging with the roof ”, said Malkiat Singh.

“I tried to call police but sarpanch Amarjeet Singh and others forced me to perform the last rites of my son on the same night and dispose off his ashes in Ravi river at Kamalpur Jattan village early in the morning on June 3”, he added.
