In yet another suspected case of honour killing, a farmer along with his relatives allegedly murdered a youth on Sunday evening for having an affair with his daughter.
The accused allegedly attacked the youth with sharp-edged and blunt weapons near Ballowal village on Sunday evening and left him there to die.
The youth called his brother Sukhwinder Singh and fell unconscious. Later, Sukhwinder Singh rushed him to the CMC hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified as Sukhwant Singh, 24, of Jodhan village. He used to run a shop of a carpenter at Jodhan village to sustain his living.
The Jodhan police station have registered a case of murder against Balwinder Singh of Ballowal village, father of the girl, and Kuldeep Singh and Kulveer Singh of Dullon Kalan village, Birbal Singh of Narang village and three unidentified accused. The police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused, who absconded after committing the crime.
According to the statement of Sukhwinder Singh, the incident took place when his brother Sukhwant Singh was on the way to Ballowal village on his motorcycle on Sunday evening. As he reached near Canal Bridge, Balwinder Singh and others attacked him with weapons and fled the spot.
According to inspector Rachhpal Singh, SHO of the Jodhan police station, Sukhwant Singh rushed him to the Pakhowal civil hospital, from where doctors referred him to the Ludhiana civil hospital.
The staff of the civil hospital asked them to take him to CMC hospital, as his condition was critical. However, Sukhwant Singh succumbed to his injuries.
Sukhwant Singh allegedly had an affair with a girl of Ballowal village for the past one year. "The girl's family opposed to their marriage and families of both the girl and the youth reached an accord that the youth and the girl would not meet each other in future, but the girl's family did not keep their words and killed my brother," alleged Sukhwinder Singh.
