In an unusual case of honour killing, a woman allegedly got her 'immoral' father murdered by her lover.

The police investigation in the Tanda triple murder case has revealed that 57-year-old Kamaljit Singh of Sikri village, whose body was recovered from his car, along with the bodies of two teenaged sisters of Bhagian village, was killed by his daughter Ramandeep Kaur's lover Gurpreet Singh at her behest as she was fed up of her father's misdeeds. Ramandeep (25) has been arrested, while Gurpreet is still at large.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rajjit Singh said Ramandeep's behaviour had raised suspicion from the outset. When she was grilled, she spilled the beans. "She revealed that her father was an immoral person and his activities were bringing a bad name to the family," the SSP claimed. "She alleged that her mother and elder brother were also undergoing mental torture due to her father's debauchery, alcohol addiction and violent nature. Her brother was staying with his in-laws," the SSP added.

He stated that Ramandeep, a post-graduate in Punjabi and a former assistant professor at Guru Angad Dev College, Khadoor Sahib, had developed relations with her colleague Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi of Allia village in Tarn Taran and wished to marry him, but feared that her father would not approve of her choice. "She thought that eliminating Kamaljit would end her problems; she conspired with Gurpreet to put her plan into practice," he claimed.

"Kamaljit was close to Bhagian resident Kamla. On January 30, he took her two daughters to Khadoor Sahib. On the way, he contacted Gurpreet's father Darshan Singh, his old acquaintance in Allia, for night stay. Sensing an opportunity, Gurpreet took the three of them to an undisclosed place on the pretext of arranging a room and murdered them," the SSP said.

He added: "It appears that the murders were committed in Khadoor Sahib. In order to mislead the police, the accused took the bodies to Tanda in Kamaljit's car to throw them in the river, but somehow failed to do so."

The police had found the bodies of Kamaljit, Jaswinder Kaur (19) and Balwinder Kaur (16) in his car on the Tanda-Sri Hargobindpur road on Sunday. An FIR has been registered at Tanda police station. The accused was produced in the court, which remanded her in judicial custody.
