Local police have registered a case against four persons, including the parents of a 15-year-old girl Manpreet Kaur, on charge of involvement in her murder eight days ago and destroying evidence.
The accused were identified as teenager's father Amrik Singh and mother Paramjit Kaur, paternal uncle Malkit Singh and the latter's wife Shinder Kaur.
Police arrested Amrik and Malkit on Thursday, while both women were at large.
The accused allegedly stabbed the girl to death on the intervening night of November 28-29 at their house at Majri village near Samana in Patiala district after her engagement broke.
As per information, Manpreet, a student of a Samana government school, allegedly had an affair with a youngster of the same village. Manpreet family got her engaged at some other place after disapproving of her affair. Meanwhile, the youngster she was engaged to broke the engagement after he came to know of her affair.
After killing Manpreet, the parents took her body to Malkit's house at Gujran village near Dirba in Sangrur district, where she was cremated in the middle of the night.
SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar said that earlier Samana police were looking into the case. "We only came to know about the crime on December 3 after which we registered a case of murder, destruction of evidence after investigation." he added.
