After being transferred for honouring two parallel “jathedars” appointed at the radical Sarbat Khalsa, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) employee Gurpreet Singh said he would not obey the transfer order.

On Tuesday, Sarbat Khalsa designated “jathedar” of Takht Kesgarh Sahib Amrik Singh Ajnala and “jathedar” of Damdama Sahib Baljit Singh Daduwal visited the Golden Temple at 4.30pm. Gurpreet was on duty at the sanctum sanctorum and he honoured them by presenting “sehra” (garland).

Gurpreet said the Golden Temple manager, Sulakhan Singh, told him that both the “jathedars” were coming to pay obeisance and all are ordered not to present them with a “siropa”

“When they came, I gave them ‘parsad’ and ‘sehra’. I only performed my duty. Being an Amritdhari (baptised) Sikh, I can present ‘siropa’, ‘parsad’ or ‘sehra’ to anyone. But I was punished and orders of my transfer were issued within an hour,” he said.

“We are under tremendous pressure. We have been ordered to give ‘siropa’ only to Alaki and BJP leaders,” claimed Gurpreet.
