In an early morning raid, the city police nabbed three persons on charges of drug peddling and bootlegging at Bahadurpur area of the city. Nearly 150 police personnel cordoned off the area before zeroing in on some households.

Three arrests were made from the spot but the officials confirmed only two. Most of the residents were still sleeping when the police came calling. Despite resistance from the locals, policemen forced their way into the houses of the alleged drug peddlers and arrested them.

The accused have been identified as Raj Kumar alias Mappa and Arun Kumar alias Lovely. The police claimed to have recovered 80 grams of smack from Raj Kumar and three cases of illicit liquor from Arun Kumar. Cases were registered against them at the city police station.

Superintendent of police (SP) Naresh Dogra and DSP (city) Satish Kumar supervised the operation.
Senior superintendent of police Raj Jit Singh said the police had received specific information about anti-social activities of the accused. "Heavy security was deployed as we did not want to take any chances,” he said.
