In a bid to introduce herself to the urban electorate, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Hoshiarpur Yamini Gomar embarked on a road show. Accompanied by party volunteers and supporters, she passed through the main bazaars of the city, waving to people or greeting them with folded hands.
The volunteers distributed pamphlets that carried an appeal to help the party 'clean the corrupt political system'. Some of them were brandishing ' jhadoos' (brooms) while raising slogans in favour of the party.
Gomar, 39, is a novice in politics and an unfamiliar face in the constituency but still exudes confidence that she will be able to give a
tough fight to her opponents.
She is pitted against veteran Congress leader Mohinder Singh Kaypee and BJP's Vijay Sampla. “People will vote for the policies of AAP. They are fed up with corruption, and criminalised politics. They will definitely vote for change", she said.
