A local girl Rukmani Riar, 24, has bagged second position in civil services exam-2011 conducted by the Union Public Services Commission.

The result of mains exams held in 2011 as well as interviews held for personality test in March-April 2012 was declared by UPSC today. A total of 910 candidates have been recommended for appointment in different civil services by the UPSC.

A gold medalist post graduate in social sciences from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Rukmaani cleared the coveted exam in her maiden attempt. Her father is Hoshiarpur-based advocate Baljinder Pal Singh Riar.

"Self study has been the key to her success and she was determined to join civil services. That's why she chose social sciences as her field of study," said a jubilant Baljinder Pal Singh Riar, a former district attorney.

"We too were assured of her success as she is determined and hardworking from the beginning. It is a proud moment for all family members. One thing she must be missing for sure is a gold medal this time," said Tadbir Riar, her housewife mother.
