Hoshiarpur institute principal caught taking bribe

The principal of the Pioneer Technical Teachers Training Institute, being run from the premises of Baldev Singh Memorial Senior Secondary School, Mahilpur, in Hoshiarpur district, was on Tuesday arrested by vigilance sleuths while taking bribe from an employee.

Accused Pargat Singh had allegedly demanded Rs 7,000 from peon Piara Singh, who wanted to withdraw Rs 2 lakh from his provident fund for his daughter's marriage. Piara Singh approached the vigilance bureau, which laid a trap and caught the principal accepting Rs 5,000 from the peon.

Deputy superintendent of police Nirmaljit Singh Sahota said a case had been registered at the vigilance bureau, Jalandhar.
