Hoshiarpur land scam: SDM’s bail plea dismissed

The court of judicial magistrate DS Ralhan here dismissed the bail plea of former sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Gidderbaha Anand Sagar Sharma on Thursday. Sagar is among those booked for wrongdoings in connection with the land acquisition for widening of road.

The court of judicial magistrate DS Ralhan here dismissed the bail plea of former sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Gidderbaha Anand Sagar Sharma on Thursday. Sagar is among those booked for wrongdoings in connection with the land acquisition for widening of road. The vigilance bureau opposed the bail plea, saying it was a multi-crore scam and it has to make recoveries for which custody of accused is needed.

Sharma was not present in the court during the hearing.

It is pertinent to mention that the economic offences wing of the VB in Ludhiana registered a case under section 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant), 420 (cheating), 467, 468 and 471 (forgery), besides 120-B (criminal conspiracy), of the Indian Penal Code (IPC); and under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on February 12 against Anand Sagar Sharma, tehsildar Baljinder Singh, naib tehsildar Manjit Singh, patvari Daljit Singh of Khwaspur Piplan Wali village , patvari Parminder Singh, Sandeep Kumar (clerk at SDM office, Hoshiarpur), registry clerk Sukhwinderjit Singh Sodhi, Devi Das, Harpinder Singh Gill of Ranjit Singh Nagar of Hoshiarpur, Satwinderpal Singh Dhatt of Tibba Sahib of Hoshiarpur, Avtar Singh Johal of Tibba Sahib of Hoshiarpur, Jaswinderpal Singh of Hoshiarpur, and Parteek Gupta of Civil Lines of Hoshiarpur.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vigilance bureau Rupinder Singh said the bureau has launched a manhunt for the arrest the accused.
