Hosiery unit destroyed in fire

A major fire broke out in a hosiery factory in Sardar Nagar near Sundar Nagar in the city on Wednesday, causing damaged worth lakhs.

A major fire broke out in a hosiery factory in Sardar Nagar near Sundar Nagar in the city on Wednesday, causing damaged worth lakhs.

The fire took place around 1.30 pm when four-five persons were present inside the factory. However, no casualty was reported from the factory.

A staff employee informed the owner of factory when he saw the flames emanating from the second storey of the building. A labourer’s family used to live in a room on the second floor.

Paviter Singh, who owns Bhagwant Knitwear f actory said, “The exact reason of the fire was yet to be known. We tried to douse the flames, but could not and came out of the building.”

He said the fire team reached in time and made best efforts to douse the fire.

According to fire wing, four tenders took around two hours to douse the fire.
