A 24-year-old hosiery worker of the Peeru Banda area of Salem Tabri was arrested for raping his sister-in-law.

The 18-year-old victim, a resident of Jwala Singh Chowk and student of Class 10, was also threatened by the accused not to reveal the incident to anyone. However, the victim narrated the entire incident to her father who lodged an FIR against the accused at the Division Number 4 police station.

In his complaint, the victim's father told the police that his elder daughter was married to the accused. He further added that he observed that his younger daughter was sad for the past few days and when he asked her the reason, she narrated the rape incident to her.

He alleged that the victim told him that around two months ago, when she was alone in the house, the accused barged in their house and raped her. The accused had also threatened her to keep quiet.

The police registered a case against the accused under section 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code on Saturday.

Sub-inspector Randhir Singh, station house officer of the Division Number 4 police station, said the police had arrested the accused immediately after registering the case.
