Hospital staff locks horn with SMO over his attitude

A controversy was brewing when the medical, paramedical and other staff in the Civil Hospital were up in arms against Senior Medical Officer (SMO) as they alleged that SMO has allegedly misbehaved with almost all the staff members of the hospital.

A controversy was brewing when the medical, paramedical and other staff in the Civil Hospital were up in arms against Senior Medical Officer (SMO) as they alleged that SMO has allegedly misbehaved with almost all the staff members of the hospital.

A complaint was lodged by the doctors, nurses, Class IV and other staff to the Secretary Health through civil surgeon had alleged that SMO has been posted in the hospital for the past one year and since then they were fed up with her dictatorial attitude.

In a complaint accessed by HT, it was learnt that they alleged that SMO not only humiliates the staff in front of the patients and their attendants but also threatens to give bad remarks in their annual confidential reports. Alleging biased attitude they alleged that SMO was favouring some staff members who were very close to her.

Various medical and paramedical and other unions have warned the government that if no action was taken against the SMO they would be forced to start agitation by sticking black badges. They said that further action would be carried out after holding joint meeting of the unions.

Keeping in view the seriousness of the complaint and to run the hospital smoothly Deputy Medical Commissioner Jagpal Singh has recommended to the Civil Surgeon for immediate action in the matter on July 10.

Civil Surgeon Gurdit Singh Sodhi said that the matter was brought to his notice and he arranged a meeting between them and was trying to resolve the issue between them. He said he had also apprised his senior officers in the matter.
