The municipal commissioner of Ludhiana, RK Verma, is all set to take action against hotel Vikrant which came into limelight a few days ago for unauthorised construction of floors. The commissioner has made up his mind to stop the construction going on for the past many days.
Verma told the Hindustan Times that he was aware of the menace of illegal constructions in the city and would take steps to stop it. He said he had directed his officials, including the assistant town planners and inspectors in different zones of the MC, not to bend in taking action against illegal constructions despite political pressure.
Verma said sometimes political pressure was responsible for the officials for not taking action against illegal buildings, but "I have specifically told the officials concerned to take action against the hotel whose construction was going on near the MC head office in zone A".
The matter was highlighted a few days ago when the MC received complaints regarding unauthorised construction and the building came under scanner.
Despite the matter coming to the light, no action was taken so far and the construction work too was going on without any interruption.
However, now Verma has come into action and says that he has asked his officials to immediately stop the construction work on any "unauthorised part" of the building.
The hotel has allegedly constructed two floors illegally while it was undergoing renovation.
A complaint was filed regarding illegal buildings with the deputy mayor RD Sharma.
Illegal construction near the MC headquarters is a clear indication that there is a nexus between officials as well as those constructing these buildings.
