The state government is set to implement the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for procurement of processing grade mango this year.

The procurement will be made through 34 collection centres from July 1 to August 15. A total of 300 metric tonnes (MT) of seedling and 200 MT of grafted mango varieties would be procured at Rs 5.50 per kg and Rs 6.50 per kg, respectively.

It would be done in crates by the Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Produce, Marketing and Processing (HPMC) and Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing and Consumer's Federation Limited (HIMFED). These agencies would be allowed
handling charges at Rs 1.30 per kilogram, and would man and operate the collection centres.

Like last year, average sale returns have been assessed as Rs 2,000 MT and Rs 3,000 MT for fruit of seedling and grafted mango varieties, respectively.

The fruits will be procured from those farmers or orchardists who possess horticulture cards and own 10 bighas or less land under mango cultivation. No fruit will be procured from the contractors.
