Himachal Pradesh governor Acharya Dev Vrat was rushed to the Nahan zonal hospital on Wednesday after he had a bout of vomiting.
The governor was on his way to attend the International Renuka Fair in Renuka town of Sirmour district, but gave it a miss after he felt giddy and vomited. He was discharged from the hospital later in the evening.
Several political leaders and government officials rushed to the hospital after getting reports of governor’s illness.
Earlier in the day, the governor called upon all sections of society, especially NGOs, to play a significant role in eradicating social evils from society.
Dev Vrat urged them to generate awareness on vital issues, such as drug abuse, organic agriculture, general sanitation and environment protection.
He was addressing a meeting held with the representatives of Chamber of Commerce and NGOs at Nahan to discuss his four-point agenda for the betterment of the state.
The governor urged the industrialists to fulfil their social responsibilities by contributing towards these causes. He asked them to place dustbins in various places, especially industrial areas, besides undertaking other welfare activities.
Detailed discussions were held regarding checking drug abuse, casteism, promotion of organic agriculture and cow rearing, environment protection, cleanliness and tourism development.
The governor stressed upon launching aggressive campaigns against drug abuse as the youth were increasingly coming under its grip.
He also underlined the need for educating people about cleanliness and eradicating social evils like untouchability. “Children can be appropriate ambassadors to spread these messages as they can be sensitised easily due to their willingness to learn,” the governor added.
