Having learnt lessons from the past incidents of hi-tech cheating, the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) on Sunday installed mobile jammers in its examination halls on trial basis here.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, an official spokesperson said that the HPPSC purchased jammers from the Himachal Pradesh Electronics Development Corporation for testing.
Earlier in September last year, hi-tech cheating cases were busted and 34 candidates were arrested, who were caught red-handed with mobile phones during the written examination of the combined graduate-level examinations.
These candidates were indulged in high-tech cheating with the help of mobile phones they carried under their clothes and the leads connected to the mobiles were craftily stitched to their clothes so as to make them undetectable.
Taking a serious note, the HPPSC chairman KS Tomar decided to introduce the mobile jammers on experimental basis in order to check frequency, range and viability of the jammers.
The HPPSC also took up the matter with the state government to purchase mobile jammers in order to eliminate high-tech cheating and malpractices during examination for which the government has agreed in principle.
Therefore, a proposal is being sent shortly to the government for providing adequate budget to install jammers in each and every examination hall and centre to avoid high-tech cheating during the course of examinations and screening tests.
“The commission has decided to purchase mobile jammers before the forthcoming Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service (Main) Examination,” Tomar said.
