Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) chairman KS Tomar on Friday wrote a letter to chief minister Virbhadra Singh regarding the introduction of aptitude test in schools, colleges and universities in the state.

Expressing concern over the low percentage of participation of candidates from Himachal, he said that only 40% to 50% students appeared in competitive examination in the state.

“Aptitude test is need of the hour to prepare students for the competitive examinations,” Tomar said.

In schools and colleges, there was no such tests so far which has resulted in hesitation in maximum students towards the competitive examinations, Tomar said.

“These aptitude tests in the colleges and universities should be on the analogy of NCC and NSS,” he said.

Meanwhile, he urged Virbhadra Singh to construct a new block on the premises of commission.

“The new block will be used for setting up a library for students preparing for various examinations, waiting hall for the candidates who appear for interviews and car parking,” Tomar said.

As per approximate estimates, total cost of construction of new block would be around Rs 2.50 crore, he added.
